What is the process to rent from The Surface Library?

Renting from The Surface Library is easy! Surfaces are rented on a first come, first serve basis. If you can’t make it in to the studio (which we strongly recommend), email or call us to see if the surfaces you’re interested in are available. If they are, we’ll put a 24 hour hold on them for you. This hold MUST be confirmed within 24 hours or you will lose it. For props, you’ll want to see everything we have in person. You’ll get a cart to fill while you choose from our stock. As with surfaces, props will be held for 24 hours awaiting confirmation. Once you have your order finalized, we’ll need the credit card authorization and rental contract submitted. If you need your items same day, we’ll do our best to accommodate. There is a cafe and a coffee bar in the building at street level where you can grab lunch or a coffee while you wait. If you’d like to come back, just let us know when you’ll be returning and your order will be waiting for you. Your credit card will be charged at the time your order is confirmed. Orders must be processed no later than 4:30 for same day pick up.

What if I’m late returning my rental?

Don’t panic! We understand that life doesn’t always go as planned. Please email our staff with your new time frame. We offer a one day grace period if we are notified a full 24 hours before the rental is due back. If you’re going into a second week, the credit card on file with your order will be charged the same amount as the first week’s rental. We will always email you to confirm before charging a credit card.

What if I lose or damage an item from my order?

That’s a bummer, but we get it, accidents happen! Our staff is here to help. First, send us an email letting us know the damage or loss that has occurred. In your rental contract, L&D fees are outlined as 10x the rental cost. While that may end up being the only resolution (vintage and one of a kind items may be irreplaceable), sometimes an item can be replaced at cost. We’ll work with you to find a suitable solution quickly and (hopefully) painlessly, as our goal is always to make your rental experience the best it can be.
